Through our organization, we want to break down the stereotypes associated with NGOs. There are no annual dues, because our true contribution is the time each of us dedicates to the organization’s events. Time is love, and that love is the driving force behind our projects, pushing us to go above and beyond to restore dignity. Our various events, held throughout the year, aim to celebrate togetherness and diversity. Being together and sharing moments of joy means living life to the fullest right now, without waiting. 

In Africa, people often say, “I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know what I’m experiencing right now.” This philosophy inspires our organization, which was founded in the wake of a childhood trauma—the loss of a child due to a lack of care. I wanted to help without creating dependency, because in trying to help, we can sometimes do more harm than good. Our approach is to provide “little fishing rods” so that everyone can choose to fish whenever they want, thereby restoring dignity and pride.

Our efforts and investments are also a way to heal from this trauma. Although this pain is still a part of me, it is now accompanied by images of beautiful babies born in the maternity ward we built together. We are not seeking glory, for it is these children who bring Yelen—The Light—into our projects and into our hearts.
