Knowledge Sharing – Conferences and Discussions
Saturday and Sunday—during the two days of the Yelen Festival
As part of the Yelen Festival, the Solidarité Afrique Farafina (SAF) association is offering a space for reflection and knowledge-sharing focused on the exchange of knowledge and intercultural cooperation.
This project aims to raise awareness among residents of the canton of Vaud—both children and adults—about the philosophy of cooperation promoted by SAF, as well as its numerous initiatives in Mali. It will give the general public a concrete understanding of what respectful, humane, and sustainable cooperation entails, while promoting the principles of mutual aid, hospitality, and living together in harmony.
Cooperation Based on Mutual Enrichment
SAF’s approach is based on a strong conviction:
Local communities are rich in knowledge, skills, and initiatives. The goal is not to impose external solutions on them, but to support them in their own efforts, while avoiding any form of dependency.
This is how SAF supports projects that promote empowerment, the intergenerational transmission of traditional knowledge, and pride in that knowledge.
Guests from Mali who came to share and learn
Women from Sanankoroba (Mali) will be visiting Switzerland for this event to share their expertise, learn about local projects in Switzerland, and build connections with other women who are actively involved.
Their stay will include a series of inspiring visits, particularly to medicinal gardens and Swiss farms run by women, with the aim of encouraging them to preserve knowledge about the land and plants—knowledge that is now under threat in their region.
A Misunderstood Form of Modernity, a Silent Danger
In some rural areas of Mali, an idealized vision of “European-style” life is leading to a growing disinterest in ancestral practices that are nonetheless valuable. Two particularly troubling phenomena will be addressed during the conferences:
•The loss of knowledge about local medicinal plants, which are inexpensive, effective, and accessible.
•The rejection of farm work by some young women, influenced by misguided stereotypes about the role of modern women.
SAF hopes to spark a discussion on these issues, which are crucial to the future of rural communities.

•Exhibitions of projects completed in Mali
•Presentations and testimonials on cooperation, knowledge transfer, and women’s empowerment
•Open discussions with participants from Mali and Swiss speakers
•Moments of intercultural exchange, featuring music, images, words, and personal experiences
The Yelen Festival thus becomes a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge, raising awareness, and inspiring one another, all in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
